Video footage of Ok Tedi

Video footage is coming soon to the MPI site. To receive notice about these interviews and pictures sign up to our mailing list, MPI Announce. We will email you when the following interviews and pictures are ready:

  • The Smoking Gun Video. BHP explains why it can build a waste dam and we see the consequences of their inaction.
  • Extraordinary Inaction. BHP could easily fix problems like the pump station for copper concentrate that regularly overflows copper laden water into local rivers. Despite a decade of intense pressure it has not.
  • A Walk In The Dead Forest. The reality of the moonscape ghost forest created by Ok Tedi waste is quite extraordinary.
  • A Trip Down The Fly River. Follow the Fly to the Junction of the Ok Tedi/Alice with the Fly river. Watch as the forest gradually degrades until suddenly at the junction it just all dies.
  • Environmental Refugees. Mosquito camp in Daru is were the people scratch a living while their villages in the mouth of the fly suffer from erosion, their fishing grounds are filled with grey sediment, the river is difficult to cross, their sago swaps die, and all the food tastes different from what it used to.
  • Road Dust. People suffering from the dust dredged from the river and used as road base which then blows all over their homes and gardens.
