Jaringan Advokasi Tambang (JATAM) supports Indonesian communities against the dehumanization and environmental destruction caused by the invasion of the mining, oil and gas industries. EMCBC is based in Canada, and has a special focus on protecting the ecology of British Columbia and the Yukon from the impacts of mining. EMCBC also works on international mining campaigns, particularly involving Canadian mining companies. TWN Africa is a Non Governmental Organisation which carries out Research and Advocacy on issues of social and economic policy that advances the needs and interests of peoples of African and other third world countries. They have a strong focus on mining issues. MWC is a pan-Canadian initiative supported by environmental, social justice, Aboriginal and labour organisations from across the country. It addresses the urgent need for a co-ordinated public interest response to the threats to public health, water and air quality, fish and wildlife habitat and community interests posed by irresponsible mineral policies and practices in Canada and around the world. Aims to make information on mining impacts, projects, and the corporate sector more widely available. Above all, hopes to empower mining-affected communities, so that they can better fight against damaging proposals and practices. Based in Washington, USA, MPC has focussed on efforts to reform USA government mining law but also supports communities and serves as an mining information resource center. Friends of the Earth believes that the move towards sustainability requires a radical reduction in the production of raw materials and a shift in worldwide consumption patterns. Our mining campaign aims to prevent the construction and operation of environmentally and socially harmful exploration and extraction projects, and questions the unsustainable consumption model that lies behind these activities.
